BASUS has started
On Tuesday, September 30, 2025, we had the pleasure of welcoming the very first cohort of students of the Joint Bachelor in Sustainability (BASUS) programme during our Welcome Day. The event took place in the historic Collegium Novum, a 19th-century landmark of Uniwersytet Jagielloński.

The Welcome Day was officially opened by the Uniwersytet Jagielloński authorities – Prof. Paweł Laidler, Vice-Rector for Education; Prof. Stanisław Kistryn, the Rector’s Proxy for Cooperation within the Framework of Una Europa; and Prof. Michał Kowalski, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Law – who warmly welcomed BASUS students and expressed their enthusiasm for the launch of this unique programme.
The academic part of the event featured an engaging lecture by Prof. Piotr Szwedo, who invited students to reflect on the role of sustainability in their daily lives and to exchange perspectives with their peers. Students were also introduced to the programme’s structure, the course schedule for the 2025/2026 academic year, and the practical aspects of university life, including useful digital platforms, applications, and rules for applying for financial support with regards to student mobility.
A special highlight was a welcome video prepared by first-year lecturers from partner universities, offering students a glimpse of the international teaching community with whom they will soon be working in Kraków. The official programme concluded with an inspiring speech by Valeria Quintana Solis, Ambassador of the Una Europa Student Board, on the possibilities afforded to students within the Una Europa alliance.
The day ended with a campus walk along Olszewskiego and Bracka Streets, where students visited the buildings that will soon host their classes, followed by a shared dinner at a pizzeria.
We hope this first day together not only provided valuable information for the upcoming academic year and insights into sustainability, but also created space for new connections and friendships. To all our students – congratulations on joining the BASUS family. We are delighted to accompany you on this new adventure — good luck!
